End to End

Has anyone done lands end to john o groats on a bike (and back or else you wont be reading this !! ) - without the sightseeing bit on the way ?

We want to do this next year as a sponsored fund raising trip and do up and back as quickly and as sensibly as possible.

If anyone has done this it would be good to have please any ideas of times and distances covered each day. It seems possible to reach the lake district on day one but after that I don't have a clue as never been further north than that by road.

We are hoping to get sponsorship from local companies towards basic accommodation etc (perhaps a brewery or two). With the fund raising sponsorship coming from those associated with Susy's school - parents etc - and anyone one else whose purse we can prise open ! Question Idea Smile

i attempted it when i was a lad on a bicycle from porthtowan to john o groates and back for beer money and got all the way up to the chiverton roundabout before deciding the bike wasen't up to it Cool i was fit as a fiddle mind you and just rested in the hedge for 40mins to let the tyres cool down in the interest of safety !

sponsored ride idea is excellent and a good cause.

Did it both ways last year, but went the long way up, so altogether covered 2200 miles, if you want to do it quickly, make Aviemore the first stop, (plenty of digs and good pubs) then do J.O.G & back to Avie the next day, then head home on the third day (9 hours & five mins to my house) so unless your superkeen 3 days would be the quickest. Cool
