History of the KHRKernow Harley Riders
A (sort of) History
Quite a few of us had already been attending rallies such as the Cider rally, Finlake, and Sandyballs, to name but a few, since the early 90s and we were always being asked what chapter etc we were from, we were just known as "the Cornish lot!" so after a few pints of Cornish best, I had a dream where I visited a planet far far away where all transportation was blue Harleys with lots of shiny bits! And high on an emerald tower I saw a gargoyle wearing the winged logo that you now see on the front of our shirts!
The back logo was originally the St Pirans cross (a white cross on a black background) blowing in the wind.
The next year I decided to change it to a smaller basic flat 6x4 flat logo, after a while I felt that it looked worse than the flag, so the next year I decided to frame the cross in a orange shield, orange because it’s the Harley colour and the shield because it signifies Harley- Davidson, so it should visually read: Cornwall Harley-Davidson, everyone seems to be happy with this design so this is the one we will stick with.
Now (and for the past few years) when we go touring or rallying we are recognised as the Kernow Harley Riders!
Although we are not a club in the conventional sense, (no treasurer, politics etc) we seem to manage quite well and have well over 50 "members".
The only different shirts that you may see is some with F.O.K.H.R. printed on the front and back (under the logos) these have been specially done for a few friends who live outside of Cornwall, it simply stands for Friends Of Kernow Harley Riders.
There are also some rare rally tees with the winged logo printed in black and white and the cross encircled with a Celtic knot.
Recently our rally shirts have featured "Arthur" a skeleton of a long lost biker holding a pasty and with a Chough on his shoulder (drawn by acclaimed Cornish artist and friend of the Kernow Harley Riders Chris Odgers)
We have done 5 rallies to date the last 3 being very successful but we did not intend to hold a rally every year so we will be taking a break every now and then........but who knows!
